The Sisters are still very much involved in education though
we no longer retain the headship of the school. As trustees we ensure that
the school continues to be conducted in harmony with the original spirit of the
Institute. Five Sisters continue to work in the school on a volunteer basis: one
as school nurse and the other four as teachers of English or as catechists.
We
are also active in various lay ministries, not only in the traditional ones such
as visitation of the sick or the lonely but in others which have arisen in
answer to new needs, arising chiefly from the shortage of priests. Because of
this, the parishes in any given deanery have been grouped into sectors, each
sector being served by a team of priests with the indispensable help of
committed lay people who have their say in the organisation of the ministries
in their area. Our Sisters are members of the pastoral council; also of the
liturgical team which prepares not only the ordinary Sunday liturgy but also Juilly's part in the great liturgical ceremonies of the Church's year.
Our Sister in Etampes is employed full-time
in a parish planted in the midst of a very mixed immigrant community of many
faiths. A secondary facet of her mandate is to be an informal presence of the
Church among these people, especially the women, simply by sharing in their
lives and concerns.
