We are inspired in life and mission by the
vision of our Founder
of a
world
HEALED
UNIFIED
AND TRANSFORMED
Bringing Christ to All
And all to Christ.
“Rooted in
simple faith, God’s love and caring providence,”
we are
committed to spreading the Good News through devoted service to the poor,
education, medical services, catechetics, youth work, missions, visitation and
pastoral care. We work to promote justices, peace, and integrity of creation
and dignity and freedom of the human person.
EDUCATION MINISTRY
“Instruction
being the principal means of enlightening (people) with True Light, and of
turning their hearts to God, the Sisters of St. Louis are to devote themselves
especially and above all to instruction in every form. They are to instruct
children and adults, catechumens and heretics, and those detained in prisons….”
Juilly Rule, 1842.
All
over Ghana, the Sisters of St. Louis are known to be seasoned and excellent
educationists. This is as a result of their commitment and dedication to
offering pure Christian education, especially to the youth in this country .St.
Bernadette’s Catholic Girls’ School flourished under the administration of the
Sisters. Home Management and Needle Work were all important aspects of training
for girls. Today the school exists as Roman Girls Junior Secondary School and
we have a sister on the staff.
Health Ministry
“Aware of the privilege of
participating in Christ’s healing ministry, the Sisters who engage in medical
care strive to bring Christ’s love, compassion and empathy to patients and their
relative in their suffering and distress.”
( St. Louis Constitutions
and Directory)

The
medical work of the Sisters of St. Louis started in Maase Offinso in 1951, at
the invitation of the Offinsohene. Home visitation, counseling and catechetics
all became important part of the Sisters’ ministry. They were spiritual mothers
to the people. This work has expanded and continued with the sisters working in
hospitals and involved in Primary Health Care.
PASTORAL MINISTRY
“True to our original spirit, we are called to be a
prophetic voice in Church and world.” ( St. Louis Constitutions 40)
The Sisters of St. Louis have always been involved
in pastoral work: preparing students for sacraments and on-going liturgical
services have always been a priority wherever the Sisters have worked and are
working.
The Sisters are involved in major pastoral works in
different places and capacities:
We have made
an immense contribution to the Catholic community in Effiakuma in Takoradi.
Many young Ghanaian Sisters also serve in pastoral roles in outstations of
Effiakuma Parish, Fijai, Anaji and

Kwesimintsim. The Diocesan Catechetical
Office in Kumasi was established in collaboration with SMA Fathers. Manny
sisters were actively involved in pastoral work at St. Kizito Parish, Nima-Accra
for over twenty years. We also worked in the Kumasi Diocesan Pastoral Centre.
We have been involved with the Women’s Council in Ghana for years now. In fact,
in all of SSL communities in Ghana, we are involved in pastoral ministry of one
kind or another: catechism, home visitation, particularly to the sick and aged.
ST. LOUIS INVOLVEMENT IN NATIONAL CATHOLIC
SECRETARIAT (NCS)
“Our
spirituality, like that of our founder, is rooted in a simple faith in God’s
love and caring providence, and in a hope which clings to and responds to that
love in all circumstances of life.” ( St. Louis Constitutions 1)
The St. Louis apostolate in the NCS began in 1973,
at the invitation of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Ghana. The Drug
Distribution Centre was established by the sisters. There is now a sister
working as a travel consultant at the NCS. This is a new project.
