Thursday 25 February 2010

On this date a Tea Party was held in St Louis High School Rathmines in honour of
the sesquicentenary of the arrival of the Sisters of St Louis in Ireland.
By 6.30pm most of the guests had arrived in the concert hall which was
beautifully decorated. Gold balloons and fleur de lis were in abundance and
tables set.
There was a full programme of events and Bridín Gilroy was MC for the evening.
Fr Richard Sheehy PP was present. It was his birthday (a significant one) and
this was not allowed to pass unnoticed. He was presented with a cake with a
candle on it for the occasion.
What a talented staff there is in the school. So many performed for us -
singing solo, duets, poetry reading, a traditional group and the staff choir. The
students also performed and talent aplenty was to be found there as well. The students
made excellent hostesses and made sure that there was a constant supply of tea, coffee and sandwiches.
At the front of the hall there was a continuous powerpoint show of the
photographs taken by two of the staff taken they were on an exchange trip
to St Louis Grammar School, Bompai, Kano, Nigeria. That gave an international
flavour to the event as did the fact that there was an American sister present
and two Nigerian sisters.
Everybody thought that it was an extremely enjoyable evening. It was something
everybody needed to feel cheered
and to feel good at a time when all was gloom and doom and the cold winter
seemed as if it would continue for ever.
The head girl presented us with a most beautiful gift - a wood carving titled
"The light of the World".
We wish to thank most sincerely the principal, Ms Mary Morgan, staff and
students of the High School for a very memorable evening.
