The Spirituality of the Sisters of St Louis is...
...rooted in a simple faith
Our spirituality, like that of our founder, is rooted in a simple faith in God’s
love and caring providence, and in a hope which clings to and responds to that
love in all circumstances of life.
...expressed in the living of the vows
This relationship of faith, hope and love is expressed in the living of the
vows, by which we are specially consecrated and bound to God and the service of
people.
...nurtured by the Paschal Mystery
Our spiritual life is nurtured by the central reality of our faith, the Paschal
Mystery, which we contemplate in Scripture and celebrate communally in the
Eucharist.
...trinitarian
Our spirituality is trinitarian, and our relationship to God the Source of all
Being, Eternal Word and Holy Spirit, enlivens our Motto "Sint Unum".
...dedicated to Christ’s prayer, "That they may be one…"
Through God’s Spirit dwelling in us, we are empowered to participate in that
union of love by which the three divine persons are one and we are moved to
dedicate our lives to the realisation in all people of Christ’s prayer: "That
they may be one…"
...ecclesial
Our spirituality is ecclesial. Through the Church we enter the Paschal mystery
both sacramentally and in living union with one another in the Body of Christ.
...apostolic
Our spirituality is apostolic. Though the call to new life is intimate and
personal to each, a faithful living of it never isolates us from the needs and
experiences of others.
...contemplative in prayer and in all aspects of life
Aware that we are called to bring the knowledge and love of God to all whom we
serve in Christ’s name, we seek to be contemplative in our prayer and in all
aspects of our lives.
...dedicated to truth, love of wisdom, and commitment to live in solidarity
with the poor
We endeavour to promote in ourselves and in others a dedication to truth, a love
of wisdom, and a commitment to our mission to live in solidarity with the poor.
...a growing personal relationship with God
Our spirituality is a growing personal relationship with God which is fostered
by sound doctrine, scripture and liturgy. We have a special devotion to the love
of Christ symbolised in the Sacred Heart, to Christ’s abiding Eucharistic
presence, and to Mary, the Blessed Mother.
...holistic
Our spirituality is holistic. We desire to respond to God’s love through all the
powers of our being - a unity of body, mind and heart. Towards this end we seek
to cultivate in ourselves and to facilitate in others the human conditions which
are the natural ground of our spiritual life: interior silence, the ability to
listen, a sense of responsibility and dedication. We are always alert for and
open to every insight which can awaken new awareness in us, enrich us with new
possibilities for growth and deepen our grasp of the Truth which sets us free.
